Spectacular South Africa – Cape Town To Johannesburg

Day 1 – Friday | Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met and assisted to your hotel transfer. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2 – Saturday | Winelands

After breakfast you meet your tour director and fellow travellers and set out to the picturesque Winelands, where century old vineyards are surrounded by awe-inspiring mountain scenery. Today’s itinerary is open: with extraordinary wine estates from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek and fascinating historical landmarks to explore your highly knowledgeable tour director will discuss the many possibilities and tailor-make a memorable Winelands experience for the whole group.

Day 3 – Sunday | Cape Peninsula

This morning you ascend one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature – majestic Table Mountain (weather permitting) for unrivalled views of Cape Town. Then drive along Millionaires Paradise from Clifton to Camps Bay, heading towards the charming working harbour of Hout Bay. You wind along the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive hugging the cliffs and relishing the breathtaking ocean views. After lunch (own account) you visit the wild and beautiful Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park, an integral part of the world renowned Cape Floral Kingdom.

Day 4 – Monday | Cape Town/hermanus

Depart by 08h30 from Cape Town. A stunning coastal drive takes you to the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden with its delicate coastal fynbos. Also seek out the small breeding colony of African Penguins at Stony Point. In the ‘Hemel -en -Aarde’ region, one of South Africa’s newest wine routes, indulge in a wine tasting at a boutique winery before arriving in Hermanus.

Day 5 – Tuesday | Oudtshoorn

This morning explore the unique cliff paths of Hermanus and enjoy the outstanding views of Walker Bay. During the months of July – November the majestic sight of whales add further enchantment to your explorations. You depart late morning, stopping for a late lunch (own account) in the pretty village of Barrydale on the scenic ‘Route 62′.

Day 6 – Wednesday | Plettenberg Bay Surrounds

This morning visit the impressive Cango Caves, filled with weird and wonderful stalactite and stalagmite formations. Then take a guided tour of an ostrich farm that gives you insight into why Oudtshoorn is known as the ‘feather capital of the world’. Then travel via the panoramic Outeniqua Pass onto your accommodation for two nights.

Day 7 – Thursday | Plettenberg Bay Surrounds/Knysna

This morning you cruise the vast Knysna Lagoon and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. A specialist guide shares the history and fascinating facts on the fauna and flora of the area with you. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch under a canopy of Milkwood trees. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to explore Knysna or return to your accommodation.

Day 8 – Friday | Plettenberg Bay/Tsitsikamma

From Plettenberg Bay you set off on an ocean safari. During summer months you may view Bottlenose and common dolphins as well as seals in their natural environment. During winter months you are very likely to view both Southern Right and Humpback whales. For the more adventureous, this afternoon there is the opportunity to attempt the world’s highest commercial bungee jump at Bloukrans Bridge. You arrive late afternoon in the picturesque village of Storms River.

Day 9 – Saturday | Port Elizabeth/Durban/Salt Rock

This morning immerse yourself in the splendour and tranquillity of the Tsitsikamma National Park and head to the Storms River Mouth for unrivalled views of the Indian Ocean. You arrive at Port Elizabeth airport at approximately 14h00 for your onward flight to King Shaka International Airport. (Flight not included).

On arrival in Durban you are met and transferred to your overnight accommodation on the tropical North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

Day 10 – Sunday | Salt Rock/St Lucia

The morning is at your leisure to stroll along the golden beach or revitalise yourself with a swim in the sparkling Indian Ocean. At 12h30 you meet your new tour director and head north to South Africa’s oldest game reserve, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi is particularly well known for its rhino conservation efforts. Chances are excellent to spot one of these prehistoric looking animals when you set out on an afternoon open vehicle safari accompanied by a qualified and experienced local field guide.

Day 11 – Monday | Swaziland

Start the day with safari boat cruise on the St Lucia Estuary in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of South Africa’s wilderness treasures. You may come across large pods of hippos, the occasional Nile crocodile and prolific birdlife. The travel north and cross the border into Swaziland, one of the few remaining monarchies in Africa.

Day 12 – Tuesday | Swaziland/Hazyview

After breakfast visit an authentic chief ’s village to gain an insight into the fascinating traditional Swazi culture and you are invited to participate in their cultural practices. Return across the border into South Africa and enjoy lunch (own account) overlooking the Crocodile River, the natural border of the Kruger National Park and arrive late afternoon into Hazyview, the safari hub of the Kruger National Park.

Day 13 – Wednesday | Hazyview/Kapama Private Game Reserve

The morning is at leisure with hotel check out at 10h00. You are collected at 13h00 by your driver an head out towards the Kruger region and Kapama Private Game Reserve – an African Eden. The reserve is a slice of wilderness paradise far from the madding crowd; a place of renewal and reconnection with the natural world. After checking into your indulgent suite for two nights, you depart on your first open vehicle safari accompanied by a skilled ranger and tracker. You can expect to encounter a diverse range of animal and bird species on game drives. Since Kapama Private Game Reserve is a Big Five reserve, seeing lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo is possible over your two-day safari.

Day 14 – Thursday | Kapama Private Game Reserve

Your day starts with an early wake-up call and you head out at first light on your morning safari. While seeing big game is always exhilarating, there are many other smaller species that are also captivating, and birding enthusiasts will be delighted at the approximately 350 species of birds recorded on the reserve.

You return to the lodge for a few hours of relaxation. Perhaps visit the African spa for a relaxing treatment or you could choose to meet and interact with Kapama’s 16 habituated elephants (own account).

At around 15h00, everyone gathers for a delicious high tea, before heading out for the afternoon game drive through the reserve. As darkness falls, the nocturnal animals of the bush come out. A variety of completely different species can be seen on the night drive back to the lodge.

Day 15 – Friday | Kapama Private Game Reserve/Depart

Enjoy your morning open vehicle safari or choose to join one of the options available (own account) – a hot air balloon flight or an elephant back safari. After a final delectable brunch you are transferred to nearby Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport.
