South Africa : A World In One Country

Day 1 – Sunday | Johannesburg

On arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day at leisure, exploring the magnificent suburban shopping malls or take an optional afternoon Soweto Tour (own account). At 19h00 meet your tour director at reception for a briefing on the tour and a chance to meet your fellow travellers.

Day 2 – Monday | Pretoria/Mpumalanga

Depart by 08h30 and leave Johannesburg’s distinctive skyline and head for Pretoria, South Africa’s capital city where you have a short orientation tour before driving to Mpumalanga. The route descends several hundred feet into the lush subtropical region of the Lowveld. Travel via the historic towns of Witbank, Dullstroom and Lydenburg, passing over the famous Long Tom Pass onto the small town of Sabie.

This afternoon is at leisure for independent activity, mountain biking, trout fishing and hiking are among the many options.

Day 3 – Tuesday | Panorama Route

Take a scenic drive along the Panorama Route stopping at God’s Window, to take in the boundless view of forested mountains and fertile plains and explore Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

After a stop for lunch (own account) continue on to view Africa’s largest active tufa falls as well as the famous Three Rondavels.

Day 4 – Wednesday | Kruger National Park

Taking a picnic breakfast, set off early for a full morning game viewing in an open safari vehicle in search of the big five -lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – and the wide variety of animal and birdlife to be found in this world famous National Park. Return to your hotel around midday with the afternoon at leisure.

Day 5 – Thursday | The Kingdom Of Swaziland

Enjoy an enchanting drive to the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland, a former British Protection Territory, now ruled by King MsWati III. An interactive cultural experience introduces you to the charming people of Swaziland and their traditions. Continue on through the capital city, Mbabane, and on to the beautiful Ezulwini Valley. Enjoy a true African shopping experience at the vibrant Ezulwini Craft Market which is packed with woven baskets, beadwork and carvings. Spend the night in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley.

Day 6 – Friday | The Kingdom Of The Zulu’s

A leisurely start to the day before driving on to Zululand, passing traditional villages with their distinctive round huts. Arrive mid afternoon at your hotel in the Umfolozi area. The rest of the day is for independent activities.

Day 7 – Saturday | Durban

This morning enjoy a cruise on Lake St Lucia to see the hippos and vibrant bird life. Then drive along the lush KwaZulu-Natal coastline en route to Durban, passing through the large sugar cane fields.

Arrive at your beachfront hotel in the early afternoon with the remainder of the day at leisure, to explore the golden beaches and warm waters of the Indian Ocean or take a stroll along the lively promenade.

Day 8 – Sunday | Port Elizabeth/Knysna

Time at leisure until your transfer from the hotel to the airport for your morning flight to Port Elizabeth (cost of flight not included). Your new tour director will meet on arrival and you continue your journey travelling along the coast road through the indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest, before reaching Knysna, in the heart of the famous Garden Route in the late afternoon.

Day 9 – Monday | Knysna

Take a morning cruise on the beautiful Knysna Lagoon and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Enjoy an amazing view of the imposing sandstone ‘Heads’ which guard the sea entrance to Knysna’s huge tidal lagoon, and the forests, marshes and pristine beaches beyond. After lunch the rest of the day is at leisure for independent activities to enjoy this vibrant town.

Day 10 – Tuesday | Oudtshoorn

This morning enjoy the wonderful views as you drive through the spectacular Outeniqua Pass and then head underground for a fascinating tour of the Cango Caves, one of South Africa’s most incredible natural wonders. Continue on to Oudtshoorn, know as the ‘feather capital of the world’, so named because it is the centre of South Africa’s ostrich industry. After lunch, which features Ostrich Steak on the menu, you learn more about these hardy, enigmatic creatures during a tour of an ostrich farm.

Day 11 – Wednesday | Cape Town

A day of magnificent vistas. Enjoy the ever-changing scenery as you travel to Cape Town. During the whale season – July to November – the journey goes via the seaside village of Hermanus in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the southern right whales, which frolic offshore. Otherwise you will drive to Cape Town along the scenic ‘Route 62′,South Africa’s version of America’s ‘Route 66′.

Day 12 – Thursday | Cape Peninsula

A full day touring of the ruggedly beautiful Cape Peninsula winding through some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world. Stop at the fishing village of Hout Bay, where you can opt to take a cruise (own account) to Seal Island to watch the antics of these natural performers. Then continue to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, before stopping off to see the penguins at Boulders Beach. Drive through the quaint naval village of Simon’s Town on your way back to Cape Town. The evening is at leisure for independent activities.

Day 13 – Friday | Cape Winelands

Journey into the beautiful and tranquil Cape Winelands, visiting both Paarl and Stellenbosch before stopping for wine tastings at two well-known estates. A visit to the Huguenot Memorial Museum and the Afrikaans Language Monument provides a historical perspective. Return to Cape Town with rest of the day at leisure.

Day 14 – Saturday | Cape Town

Check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight home.
