Inspirational Garden Route

Day 1 – Monday | Cape Town – Hermanus

We depart by 08h30 from Cape Town and travelling on to Stellenbosch for further collections. A stunning coastal drive takes you to the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden with its exquisite coastal fynbos. After viewing the richness of the Cape floral kingdom you visit the small breeding colony of African Penguins at Stony Point. In the afternoon explore one of South Africa’s newest wine routes ‘Hemel-en-Aarde’ which translates to ‘Heaven and Earth’. A wine tasting at a boutique winery serves as a perfect illustration of why this region is so aptly named.

Day 2 – Tuesday | Oudtshoorn

Beautiful Walker Bay stretches out in front of the narrow coastal village of Hermanus and the unique cliff path invites you to explore on foot the charms of the area. During the months of July – November the majestic sight of whales add further enchantment to your explorations.

Depart late morning for a spectacular drive through the heart of the Cape Folded Mountains. In the pretty village of Barrydale enjoy a late lunch (own account) before setting off along the scenic ‘Route 62’ towards Oudtshoorn, for overnight

Day 3 – Wednesday | Plettenberg Bay (and surrounds)

A morning visit to the impressive Cango Caves, filled with weird and wonderful stalactite and stalagmite formations. This is followed by a guided tour of an ostrich farm that gives an insight into why Oudtshoorn is known as the ‘feather capital of the world’. The Outeniqua Pass affords us panoramic views of the Outeniqua Mountain range as you travel towards George and then onto your accommodation for two nights.

Day 4 – Thursday | Knysna

After a leisurely breakfast drive to nearby Knysna to cruise the vast Knysna Lagoon and visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. A specialist guide shares the history and fascinating facts on the fauna and flora of the area. An optional guided walk through coastal forest and fynbos into ancient sea caves is richly rewarded with a delectable lunch served under a canopy of Milkwood trees. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to either further explore the enticing town of Knysna or return to your Lodge and soak up the relaxed atmosphere of its country setting.

Day 5 – Friday | Tsitsikamma

Today you set off on an ocean safari from the delightful holiday resort of Plettenberg Bay. During summer months you may see Bottlenose and Common dolphins as well as seals in their natural environment at Robberg Seal colony. During winter months you are very likely to view both Southern Right and Humpback whales. For those wanting more excitement, this afternoon you have the opportunity to attempt the world’s highest commercial bungee jump at Bloukrans Bridge. You arrive late afternoon in the picturesque village of Storms River.

Day 6 – Saturday | Port Elisabeth

After a hearty breakfast you enter the Tsitsikamma National Park and head to the Storms River Mouth for unrivalled views of the Indian Ocean and its relentless waves that crash against the rocky shores. Immerse yourself in the splendour and tranquillity of the pristine forest as you explore one of the nature trails. This afternoon you arrive in Port Elizabeth at approximately 14h00 and your guided journey ends with either a drop off at a central hotel or at the airport for your onward flight.
