Highlights of Cairo

DAY 1 Cairo

Upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, you will be met and assisted through Immigration and Custom formalities by a Tour Representative, then transferred to your hotel for overnight.

DAY 2 Cairo

Breakfast at the hotel before departing with your English speaking Egyptologist – guide for a morning visit to Memphis, the capital of the Old Kingdom, to view the Alabaster Sphinx and Ramses11′s tomb. Then on to Sakkara – the vast necropolis of ancient Memphis, where fourteen pyramids were constructed, including the Step Pyramid of Zoser, the world’s oldest stone structure, and hundreds of tombs, the Wall of Cobras and the Tomb of Ti paintings. In the afternoon stop at Oriental Carpet Factory then continue on to visit the Great Pyramids and the enigmatic Sphinx of Giza which stand on a desert plateau, majestically as they have been for 35 centuries. Visit the Solar Boat Museum. Before returning to your hotel end your day by visiting the Papyrus Institute and the bazaars. (OPTIONAL: This evening you may return to the Pyramids area for the Sound and Lights Show.) The evening is at leisure.

DAY 3 Cairo

Breakfast at the hotel then, escorted by your guide spend the morning at the Egyptian Museum, which houses the richest collection of antiquities ever discovered, including the fabulous burial treasure of King Tutankhamon. In the afternoon journey into Old Jewish, Christian and Islamic Cairo. Visit the El Moallaka church, the site where the Virgin Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus took refuge. Next to the St. Barbara Church is the 9th century Synagogue of Ben Exra supposedly built over the site where the baby Moses was found in the bulrushes. On to the famous Citadel of Salah El-Din. This 13th century fortress encloses the famous Alabaster Mosque. End the day with a visit to the Khan-El-KhalilAn afternoon drive through Old Cairo and visit the Ben Ezra Synagogue, the Churches of Abu Sergha and Al Moallaka church and the Khan – El – Khalili bazaar. Return to the hotel with the rest of the evening at leisure.

DAY 4 Cairo

After breakfast at the hotel you have time at leisure for independent activities until your airport transfer.
