A Journey Through Burkina Faso

Day 1 Ouagadougou

Your arrival in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, with will be in the evening or night, depending on your airline. Your guide/driver will be awaiting you at the airport to transfer you to your accommodation.

Day 2 Banfora

Your journey through Burkina Faso starts with a long day on the road from the capital Ouagadougou to the town of Banfora in the West, the starting point for an exploration of the region’s natural wonders. The journey offers a chance to get an impression of Burkina Faso’s daily life and geography. – this area is dominated by savannah. Stops will be made for lunch and – depending on time available – for a visit of Dafra’s sacred fishes.

Day 3 Banfora

An early start to arrive at sunrise at Lake Tengréla, Set out on the lake with a local fisherman in his pirogue (traditional wooden boat) to search for the lake’s population of hippos. Return to the hotel for breakfast. The rest of the morning is at leisure to independently explore the town of Banfora or to take some quiet time.

After lunch visit the Karfiguéla Falls. The falls are an excellent place for a refreshing dip, so make sure to take your swim-suit and towel! From the falls you’ll continue to the nearby Domes de Fabedougou. These impressive rock formations have an almost identical geological feature as Australia’s Bungle Bungles. Where the Bungle Bungles are drawing high numbers of tourists, the Domes are still rather unknown. In the light of the setting sun the Domes will show their most beautiful earthly colors.

Day 4 Banfora

Today you explore Sindou and its surroundings. Located at about 50k from Banfora, the drive offers a chance to enjoy the lush environment. In the morning you’ll visit the stunning Sindou Peaks, an impressive formation of rocks. Lunch is in a camp in Sindou, where you have the opportunity to relax in hammocks underneath the mango trees, before exploring the ancient village of Sindou with a local guide. In the afternoon  a 40k drive takes you to Niansogoni, home to the ancient tryglodyte village on the mountain. In the late afternoon, when the temperatures are dropping, you can climb the mountain with a local guide to visit the ancient village, set at an altitude of about 400 meters. At sunset you descend and return to your hotel in Banfora.

Day 5 Boromo

Leaving Banfora,  your journey goes eastwards to Boromo, halfway between Bobo-Dioulasso and Ouagadougou. Parc Deux Balé, at about 4k from the village, is home to several herds of elephant, roan antelope, bushbuck, grey duiker, oribi, jackal, warthog, monkey, baboon and an amazing number of bird species. The late afternoon is an excellent time for a park visit, offering good opportunities for game spotting.

Day 6  Koupela

An early morning game viewing drive in the park. Your journey then takes you from Boromo to Koupela., stopping for lunch in one of the villages or towns en-route.

Day 7 Kompienga

From Koupela you’ travel south to Lake Kompienga, near Pama, where your overnight is spent by the lake. Enjoy a boat tour on the lake.

Day 8 Ouagadougou

The drive today takes you back to Ouagadougou. Depending on the departure time of your flight, you’ll be transferred from the hotel to the airport for your homeward journey.
